The microphone had a bit of tape on the handle where somebody had repaired it, and Danielle remembers that better than anything she said.
She remembers the tape. She remembers that the stand was too tall and she did not adjust it, so she had to lift her chin the whole time. She remembers a woman in the third row with a baby on her shoulder who did not stop looking at her once.
And she remembers saying, out loud, into a room of about two hundred people, that God had set her free.
She meant it. That is the part she needs somebody to understand this morning. It was not a performance and it was not exaggeration for the room. Something had genuinely happened in April and she had been walking in it for months and she stood up and said so, and the room did that low warm noise a room does, and afterward a man she did not know shook her hand for slightly too long and could not speak.
That was Sunday.
It is now Tuesday, ten to six, and she is sitting on the edge of the bath in the dark with the door shut because the light through the frosted glass is the only light she can tolerate.
And the sentence going round is not about the thing she did. The sentence going round is: I stood in front of two hundred people and lied.
She did not lie. But there is no route from here to there that she can see at ten to six, and every one of those two hundred faces has moved into the bathroom with her, and the woman with the baby is right at the front.
She is not planning to tell anybody. She has already decided that. She is planning to be busy for about nine months.
And here I stop talking about Danielle, because you gave your account of what God did and then Monday happened, and you are sitting somewhere small with the door shut.
I know what the accusation sounds like, because it is very well made. It does not say you fell. It says you were never telling the truth. It goes backward and it takes the April with it, and that is the theft that actually hurts.

What you said was true
I am going to say this first and plainly, because at ten to six in a dark bathroom the first sentence is the only one that gets through.
What you said in that room was true. It is still true. You were not lying and you are not a fraud, and the account you gave of what God did is not withdrawn this morning.
And hear where that comes from, because it is not me being kind to you. It is written, and the Holy Spirit is the one carrying it through a shut door:
If we believe not, yet He remains faithful: He cannot deny Himself.2 Timothy 2:13
Read that slowly, because it is doing something enormous. It does not say He remains faithful when we do. It sets the two apart on purpose. His faithfulness is not a reflection of ours and it never was, and it cannot be, because it rests on who He is rather than on how the week went. He cannot deny Himself. That is the reason your testimony still stands: it was never a report on your steadiness. It was a report on His.
So you are not a liar this morning. You are a person who told the truth about God and then had a Monday, and Scripture says His faithfulness is not on a variable rate, and the Spirit of God is not embarrassed to be associated with you at ten to six.
The theft you should refuse
Now let us name what is being taken, because the accusation is not aiming at Monday.
It is aiming at April. It wants the whole stretch. It wants you to reclassify a genuine work of God as a mood you were in, so that the next time He does something you will not dare to say so out loud, and the room will be quieter, and the woman with the baby will never hear it.
That is the theft. Refuse it.
What God did in April, He did. It is on the record He keeps and it is not under review, because the gifts and the calling of God are not withdrawn when the recipient has a bad night. That is written, and His Spirit is the one who makes it more than a comforting idea. You have not been reduced to your worst hour. You have been kept by Someone who does not revise His work when the week disappoints Him.
And let me put the practical half beside it, because a message without it has failed you. Keep every real help you have got. The meeting, the sponsor, the counselor, the doctor, the medicine, the friend who texts on Thursdays. None of it competes with what God is doing in you and none of it is small faith. It is His kindness arriving with a face and a phone number, and He does not ask anybody to choose between His hand and the hands He sent.
Here is the turn, and it is not a plan and it is not an instruction to go and confess to two hundred people.
You are not being downgraded this morning. That is the thing. There is no revised statement to issue and no correction to publish, because what you announced in that room was not a claim about your run of days. It was a claim about God, and He has not changed since Sunday.
Freedom is already yours. It is not the reward for a clean week and it is not suspended pending an explanation, because Christ paid for it and God does not take back what His Son paid for. You have it in a dark bathroom on a Tuesday with the door shut, and you have it before one person has been told anything. That is what the written word says over you, and the Holy Spirit is the one breathing it into an hour you would rather not be awake for.
And the accusation that everything you said was a lie has no right to stay in your mind. It is not a conviction and it is not evidence and it is not the Spirit of God, because He convicts to restore and never to erase. Right now, as you read this, you are not reaching for something new. You are agreeing out loud with something already settled.
So the next thing is not a public statement. It is one open hand and one true sentence, in this small room, with the light still off.
And say this with me plainly, because a morning like this can go somewhere darker. If you used more than you meant to, or you are unwell from stopping, or the thought has turned toward not being here at all, do not sit with that alone behind a shut door. Get medical help now, and tell one person today. In the United States you can call or text 988 at any hour. Wherever you are, there is a local line and there are people awake right now. Nothing on this page stands in place of that, and you matter more than any testimony you have ever given.
Declare this over yourself
Say these out loud where you are, hand open. The right to speak them is not something Sunday earned and it is not something Monday canceled: it is yours in Christ, given to you, and exercised in His Name. Speak them, keep the hand open afterward, and leave the whole of what follows with Him, because the outcome is His. And it is the Holy Spirit who makes that land in you rather than merely read well.
- Accusation that I lied into a microphone, you have no case and you never had one. Scripture says that when we are faithless He remains faithful because He cannot deny Himself, so what I told that room was a report on Him and not a report on my week.
- Fear that April was only a mood I was in, get off me now, in the name of Jesus. You are trying to take the whole spring so that I never say anything out loud again, and my hand is open and empty, because the picture was never about the man, it was about the boat.
- God, You are in this dark bathroom at ten to six and You have not revised one word. Your faithfulness is not on a variable rate, so I am walking free from this morning, and I am keeping the pager instead of writing the letter.
