Leilani has never once used the word.
Not in her own head, in the dark, at four in the morning. She has thought around it in eleven different ways and she has never let it land, and there is a specific reason for that, and it is not denial in the way people mean denial.
It is that a doctor wrote it down.
She has been taking the same thing for six years. She was prescribed it after a hard stretch in her early thirties: real anxiety, the kind where a body will not stop, the kind that took her to an emergency room twice convinced she was dying. It was correctly diagnosed. It was appropriately prescribed. She has never taken more than she was told to take.
And she cannot get through a day.
Not cannot cope. Cannot get through. There is a difference and she is precise about things. If it is late she can feel the day beginning to come apart at the seams by about four in the afternoon, and by six she is not really present with her children, and she knows how many hours it is, always, the way you know where your keys are.
Six years. Correct dose. Signature on the box.
So when the thought arrives, the one with the word in it, she has a complete and genuinely reasonable answer ready:
You cannot call it that. A professional signed for it. People who have that word are not people like me.
And here is where I stop talking about Leilani, because you have your own signature on your own box, and it has been standing between you and a plain sentence for years.
I want to name the wound before I touch anything else, because this one is genuinely unfair. The very thing that makes your situation legitimate is the thing that has made it unspeakable. The signature that got you help is the signature that now keeps you from asking for more of it.
The freeing is done by a Person, not decided by a label
Let me put the true thing down first, because you are about to have an argument about vocabulary that you do not need to have.
You do not have to win a debate about what word applies to you in order to be free. The freeing is not administered by a category. It is done by a Person, and He does it thoroughly:
If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.John 8:36
Notice what that verse does not do. It does not describe a condition and then decide whether the condition qualifies. It names an agent and a result, and the word behind indeed means actually, genuinely, in reality, as opposed to nominally.
So the question you have been stuck on for years, whether this counts, whether you are allowed to call it that, is not the gate. It never was. Christ does not require a person to correctly classify themselves before He acts. And it is the Holy Spirit who makes that land in you rather than merely read well.
That means you can put the vocabulary down, right now, unresolved, and Scripture is where I stand that rather than my own opinion, and God's Spirit is not waiting on a definition before He comes into a room.
Say what happens, not what it is called
Now let me hand you the practical version of the same thing, because it is the piece nobody gives people in your position.
You have been trying to arrive at a label before you were allowed to speak. That is backward and it has cost you years. Nobody, including your doctor, actually needs the label from you. What they need is the description.
Not: I think I might have a problem. That sentence invites a debate about definitions and you will lose it, because you have a signature and a correct dose and a genuine diagnosis.
Instead: the day comes apart at four if I am late, and I am not present with my children by six, and I always know how many hours it has been. That is not a claim about a category. It is an account of what happens, and it is unarguable, and it is exactly what a prescriber needs.
Hear this: you are not required to prove your case before you are allowed help. You are already accounted for by God, who has never once needed a person to have the right word for what is wrong with them before He moved toward them. That is written, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes it something you can act on this week rather than something you find sensible.
And now the part that matters most, and I will be exact, because getting this wrong is dangerous. Do not stop, reduce or stretch anything on your own. In particular, do not simply stop this class of medicine; some of them are among the most dangerous things there are to come off without supervision, and abruptly stopping can be seriously harmful. Do not do it to prove something to yourself. The way through is your prescriber, with the description above, and a plan made by somebody who knows. And if you are ever in danger, if you have taken more than you meant to, or the thought has turned toward not being here, get medical help now and tell one person today. In the United States you can call or text 988 at any hour. There are people awake right now.
Here is the turn, and it is not a diagnosis and it is not a word you have to accept.
You are not being asked to call yourself anything. Put the vocabulary down entirely: it has been a six year argument with yourself and it was never the gate, because the freeing is done by Christ and not granted by a category.
What is in front of you is a description, said once, to the person who signed the box. That is all. And the description is already fully formed in you, because you have been running it silently for years.
Freedom is already yours today. It is not a prize for qualifying and it is not withheld until you fit a definition, because Christ paid for it in full and God does not take back what His Son paid for. That is what the written word says over you, and the Holy Spirit is the one pressing it into an ordinary afternoon at about four o'clock.
And the signature has no right to stand between you and asking for more help. It got you help once, and it was right to, and it was never intended to become a wall. Right now, as you read this, you are not reaching for something new. You are agreeing out loud with something finished.
So the next thing is not a label. It is the name said out loud once, and one appointment where you say what happens rather than what it is called.
Declare this over yourself
Say these out loud, standing where you are. The right to speak them is not granted by a diagnosis and it is not withheld for want of one: it is yours in Christ, given to you, and exercised in His Name. Speak them, stay standing afterward, and leave whatever follows with Him, because the outcome is His. The Holy Spirit is the one carrying that into the room you are actually in.

- Six year argument with myself about which word I am allowed to use, get out of my head now, in the name of Jesus. You have kept me silent while a day comes apart at four, and I am standing up, because nobody was ever going to make me prove I had earned the word.
- God, You are in this room at four in the afternoon and You have never needed me to classify myself before You moved toward me. Your word says the Son makes me free indeed, so I am free and I am not ashamed of needing help, and what I am taking to my prescriber this week is the description and not a label.
