There are two women living in Charmaine and they have never met.
Sunday's woman gets up at half past five to be at the building by seven. She has a garment bag. She warms up in the car with the windows up and she is not embarrassed about it. She knows the eleven o'clock congregation by name from the platform, and when the bridge comes round the third time and the room lifts, something real happens, and it is not a performance, and she would swear on anything you put in front of her that it is not.
Saturday's woman gets up at nine and does the errands and comes home about four and closes the front door and does not go out again.
Saturday's woman has a routine. She would not call it that. She would call it a Saturday. But it starts at about five, and it is quiet, and it is completely private, and nobody in the entire world has ever seen it, not once, not in six years.
And here is what has broken open in her this week and will not close again.
She was standing at the sink on Saturday at half past nine at night, and she caught herself humming the bridge. The same bridge. The one from the eleven o'clock. Her own voice, in her own kitchen, with a glass on the counter, humming the thing that lifts the room.
And she stopped, and stood there, and had the thought she has been avoiding for six years, which is not God is going to catch me, because she does not believe He works that way, and it is not somebody is going to find out, because nobody is.
It is: which one of these is actually me.
And here is where I stop talking about Charmaine, because you have a Sunday self and a Saturday self, and you have started to suspect that one of them is the real one and you are afraid you know which.
Let me be careful with you, because this is exactly where a person gets crushed by a message meant to help. So I will say the first thing plainly: I am not going to call Sunday's woman a fraud. Whatever happened in that room happened. I am also not going to call Saturday's woman the real one. Neither of them is the answer, and the question itself is the trap.

Neither one is your name
Let me put the strongest thing down first, because a woman standing at a sink at half past nine will hear one sentence before she starts arguing.
You are not two people. You are one person who has been living in two rooms, and the one who leads and the one who closes the door are the same woman, and she is loved as one whole thing right now, before either room changes.
I would not dare to say that out of my own head. It is written, and the Holy Spirit is the one carrying it into a kitchen on a Saturday night:
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.1 John 1:7
Now look carefully at what that verse does and does not say, because everybody misreads it in the same direction.
It does not say the cleansing comes after you have been found out. It does not say fellowship is what you get once the two rooms have been reconciled in public. It says walking in the light, which is a direction and not an achievement, and it says the blood cleanses, present tense, ongoing, which is a thing that keeps happening rather than a thing you qualify for. And it is the Holy Spirit who makes that land in you rather than merely read well.
So the cleansing is not waiting on your exposure, and Scripture is where I stand that rather than my own kindness, and God's Spirit is not in the eleven o'clock and absent at the sink.
Walking in the light is not being found out
Now let me take the fear apart, because it is stopping you from moving.
You have been assuming that the only way out of two rooms is a public collapse. That someone finds out, or you stand up and say it, and the whole thing comes down in front of the people who know you from the platform. And because that is unbearable, you have concluded there is no exit, and so you have stayed for six years.
That is not what walking in the light means. Light is not a floodlight aimed at you. It is where God is, and it is a direction you turn and take one step in.
One step is one person. Not a congregation, not a platform, not a leadership team. One person, chosen by you, told in daylight, this week.
And here is the ground under that step: you are already fully known by God and you have not been rejected, and there is no version of you He has been shown and walked away from. That is written, and the Holy Spirit is the one who makes it a thing you can act on rather than a thing you hope.
And now the serious practical half, said exactly as carefully as I mean it. If you have been drinking every Saturday, or more often, please do not simply stop by yourself. Coming off alcohol without medical supervision can be genuinely dangerous, and that is not a reason to keep going, it is the reason to see a doctor and say out loud how much and how often. Keep every other real help too: the counselor, the meeting, the medicine, the woman who would drive across town for you. None of it competes with what God is doing in you and none of it is a smaller faith. It is His kindness arriving with a face and a phone number.
Here is the turn, and it is not a confession and it is not you standing up in front of anybody.
You are not being asked to collapse the two rooms in public. You are being asked to open a door one inch, to one person, in daylight. That is what a first step in the light actually looks like, and it is available to you this week, and nothing about your Sunday has to be dismantled for it.
Freedom is already yours. It is not a prize for a clean Saturday and it is not issued at the end of a confession, because Christ paid for it in full and God does not take back what His Son paid for. You have it at the sink at half past nine with the glass still on the counter. That is what the written word says over you, and the Holy Spirit is the one pressing it into a Saturday night.
And the question about which woman is the real one has no right to sit in your kitchen. It is not honesty and it is not conviction, because the Spirit of God convicts in order to restore and never to divide a person against herself. Right now, as you read this, you are not reaching for something new. You are agreeing out loud with something finished.
So the next thing is not a testimony. It is a glass set down, a sentence said out loud in your own kitchen, and one person told before Wednesday.
And say this plainly with me, because it matters more than anything else on this page. If you have been drinking daily, do not simply stop on your own: coming off alcohol without medical supervision can be genuinely dangerous, and a doctor this week is the way through. And if you have drunk more than you meant to and you are unwell, or the thought has turned toward not being here at all, get medical help now and tell one person today. In the United States you can call or text 988 at any hour. Wherever you are there is a local line and there are people awake right now.
Declare this over yourself
Say these out loud at the counter, glass pushed away. The right to speak them is not earned on a platform and it is not forfeited at a sink: it is yours in Christ, given to you, and exercised in His Name. Speak them, leave the glass where it is, and leave everything that follows with Him, because the outcome is His.
- Saturday at half past nine, you are not a separate life and you never were one. Scripture says the blood of Jesus cleanses, present tense and ongoing, so the cleansing is not waiting for anybody to find me out.
- Question about which one of these women is the real one, get out of my kitchen now, in the name of Jesus. You divide me against myself and you have kept me in two rooms for six years, and my hands are open and the glass is on the counter, because I am one woman and I am loved as one whole thing.
- God, You are at this sink at half past nine and You were not only in the eleven o'clock. Your word says that walking in the light is a direction and not a spotlight, so my hands are my own now, and I am telling one person in daylight before Wednesday.
